Many people are wondering what my e-book is about. If you’re interested in having some support for home workouts, then this is going to be of interest to you. You’ll get an exercise library and the direction you’ll need to train at home. Even if you know that this will help you, the delivery may be intimidating for you.
I don’t want to insult anyone’s intelligence, but since I’m getting lots of questions about how to download my e-book I thought I’d go through this with those that are new to this sort of thing…
My e-book is a downloadable product that you get delivered from the internet. Click to continue »
Danielle Cobbet from Simply for Life is an expert at making you feel your best. We team up for nutrition seminars for boot camp, and I thought I should tap into her knowledge to help those who won’t attend the seminars offered with camp.
Here she shares some info about water. The take home message is that most of us need to get more of it! Sometimes we think we’re hungry when we’re really just dehydrated. Maintaining positive hydration levels will go a long way to support your weight loss and/or maintenance. Take it away Danielle!

I watched this CBC Market Place episode and thought it may be of interest to you. This is an investigation of Herbal Magic and the claims that the company makes in terms of losing weight.
I’m all about education and there are many misconceptions about weight loss out there. If weight loss was easy, wouldn’t we all be thin? Sadly, many programs may be more about their bottom line and not your health. My conclusion about many of these schemes is the only thing that will be lighter will be your wallet. You be the judge. I would love to hear your comments about this! What do you think ??
Imagine, if you will, a 6 foot tall man, about 210 lbs, hairy and larger than life, standing in line at the Winner’s fitting room with several (large) black dresses in hand. Yes, it’s our own Kelly Scott from the 9:30 am camp. The man who got the whole ‘Little Black Dress’ charity event idea going.
This is a man with big shoulders. He’s endured our teasing for several other LBD workouts in the past until he laid down the gauntlet. If he wore his LBD, would others? Well, you can check out the video to show the fun we had at the three charity boot camps on Friday, February 26th.
The big winner is Brown Bagging It. All drop in fees will go to help make lunches for hungry kids in Calgary. We managed to raise a whopping $855! That’s the equivalent to almost 633 lunches for hungry mouths! Who’s laughing now at Kelly’s hair-brained idea?
Kelly may have big shoulders, but he also has a big heart. Thanks to him for his humility and sense of humor and to everyone else who generously donated. Boot campers all have big hearts; even some that were unable to attend sent in their donation, so thank you, thank you, thank you!
A good time and a good workout was had by all!

Shari may not consider herself to be an inspiration, but she is an amazing woman. She is a dedicated boot camper with a toddler at home. As you can see, she is due at any moment with her second child (well, she has a bit of time left). Shari’s pregnancy didn’t slow her down much in boot camp. In fact, she even took nearly 30 seconds off her mile time today.
Wow, Shari, we really are inspired by your commitment to health and exercise.
The 5:30 am camp wanted to celebrate Shari’s upcoming arrival with some gifts. Gail organized this and we were able to present her with some goodies for baby-to-be and big brother too.
We have such an amazingly supportive group that comes out to boot camp day in and day out. Thank you ladies for your kindness to each other and for making boot camp such a great place to be. (Although at 5:30 am, I can think of another great place to be-my bed! You make getting out of bed so worthwhile!)
My friend and colleague, Lisa Taylor, had some more helpful advice regarding bloating:
If you notice that you are having a lot of bloating when eating bread or pasta, this is a sign that your body does not like flour. It could be a mild food sensitivity/allergy, a gluten intolerance Click to continue »
Hey, are you feeling like you swallowed a balloon at times? Many women experience bloating. It’s uncomfortable and that distended belly look is so last year. You don’t want to train like a dog only to have your tummy troubles spoil that trim look you’re after.
Try some of the following tips to see if you find relief:
Reduce high glycemic carbohydrates from your diet. A diet that is lower in carbs, higher in healthy fat and protein often will ease heartburn, indigestion and bloating.
Eat small meals (5-6), instead of three larger meals. When insulin levels elevate, (even with the consumption of healthy food), it can make bloating worse.
Always consume some protein and fat when consuming carbohydrates to moderate insulin. You want to avoid an insulin spike which can contribute to bloating as well as fat accumulation.
Reduce or eliminate gluten for a week. Often breads, baked goods (wheat products) are the culprit and only by cutting them out completely will you see if this is the problem.
Stay hydrated with plenty of water.
Try not to eat three hours prior to bed to avoid acid reflux.
Alcohol can be an irritant, so reduce or eliminate it as much as possible.
Peppermint calms the tummy, so adding oil of peppermint or a supplement can be helpful.
Try digestive enzymes to help the body process sugars, starches, proteins and fats.
Ginger in any form can calm the stomach.
Of course, purposeful eating is key. If you pay close attention to what you’re eating it will be easier to eliminate the foods that are causing you to bloat. If you need some support with your eating, you can check out my e-book as it has a whole nutrition component. to help you improve your eating and drop unwanted fat.
It’s easy to blow a clean diet when eating out. This is the number one reason that I don’t like to eat out much because it’s so easy for me to make poor food choices. On the one hand, since I eat out so infrequently, I don’t mind splurging on treats a little more, but on the other hand, if I do, I don’t feel very well. Then I wonder if it’s even worth it.
On my recent travel weekend, I chose to have a small ‘treat’ everyday. For me, this was a good balance of indulgence while still eating for function. I otherwise tried to maintain my nutrient dense, low glycemic carb, good fat, higher protein diet. This ”treat a day strategy” may be one for you to employ on a holiday. (I wouldn’t suggest a treat a day on a regular basis if you’re interested in getting leaner.)
